Job Title: Swiss Lathe Operator
$23/Hr. Temp to Hire
Location: Whitestown
Monday to Thursday 3:00 pm to 1:30 am – 10 hours shift
(training on 1st shift 6 am to 4:30 pm)
Job Summary: The Swiss Lathe Operator is responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of Swiss lathes and associated machinery, ensuring high-quality part production and compliance with specifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Power on and off Swiss lathe and bar feeder systems.
- Manage compressed air valve operations and bar feeder.
- Demonstrate basic understanding and operation of Swiss lathes and bar feeders.
- Load bar stock into the bar feeder with precision.
- Conduct visual inspections of parts using microscopes to ensure quality.
- Perform dimensional inspections using Mahr gauges, micrometers, and calipers.
- Adjust tool offsets on controllers to maintain product compliance.
- Remove chips from parts and conduct quick visual checks.
- Use an ultrasonic cleaner to degrease parts.
- Identify, segregate, and report compliant and non-compliant parts.
- Maintain accurate records of operations in Operation Logs.
- Refill oil reservoirs for CNC and/or Swiss late and bar feeder as needed.
- Clean chips from the catch basin and maintain the exterior cleanliness of the machine.
- Keep tools and work areas organized and clean.
- Sharpen cutting tools using a diamond wheel grinder.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and orderly workplace.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience operating machinery such as CNC, lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and vertical/horizontal cut-off saws.
- Minimum of 1 year Swiss lathe
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong work ethic with a sense of urgency.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; punctual, flexible, and professional.
Work Environment: The role involves frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, mechanical parts, and vibrations. Operators may encounter varying weather conditions, waste materials, and chemicals. The noise level can be loud, requiring appropriate safety measures.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting up to 40 lbs and pushing/pulling up to 60 lbs.
- Manual dexterity to handle small parts and identify minute product variations.
- Good vision required for detailed inspections.
- Proficiency in using computers for report creation, data analysis, and responding to inquiries.
- Exposure to active machinery, moving equipment, and dust may be expected.
