Position Title: Slitter Helper
Position Summary
The Slitter Helper supports the operation of slitting equipment by assisting with setup, material handling, and
inspection. This role is essential in maintaining high-quality output and ensuring safe work practices are
followed at all times. The Slitter Helper works closely with machine operators and production staff to ensure
that all materials are processed to exact customer specifications while adhering to company safety and quality
standards.
Key Responsibilities and Quality & Safety Duties
Quality Assurance & Product Integrity
Assist in verifying incoming coils against customer specifications before processing, checking for
observable defects or irregularities.
Support accurate setup of slitting equipment, ensuring that machine settings align with work order
requirements and customer tolerances.
Monitor material during processing to detect quality concerns such as incorrect slitting, edge damage, or
coil misalignment.
Report any quality issues immediately to the operator or supervisor and assist in resolving issues to
avoid product defects.
Participate in final inspection steps, including weighing, labeling, and sending finished coils to banding
and packaging, ensuring compliance with order documentation.
Safety Leadership & Awareness
Maintain constant awareness of surroundings, ensuring equipment is operated safely and according to
established protocols.
Interrupt operations immediately when unsafe conditions are identified and assist in correcting hazards.
Report safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, or near-miss incidents promptly to the supervisor or
team lead.
Support a clean, organized, and safe workspace by following housekeeping standards and using proper
tools and equipment.
Operational & Equipment Support
Assist the machine operator with starting, monitoring, and stopping equipment as needed to ensure
smooth operation.
Load and secure coils using proper lifting tools such as coil cars and forklifts, following all safety
procedures.
Manage scrap during the production process by properly securing and handling on the scrap winder.
Help with equipment setup and minor adjustments under the guidance of the operator to maintain
production flow.
Communication & Team Coordination
Collaborate closely with team members to ensure a clear understanding of job specifications and task
assignments.
Communicate any issues in scheduling, material setup, or coil condition that may impact quality or
production timelines.
Assist in training new Slitter Helpers by demonstrating proper techniques, safety procedures, and quality
standards.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
One year of experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Skills & Competencies
Strong focus on quality, safety, and detail orientation.
Familiarity with reading and interpreting work orders, safety rules, and production documentation.
Ability to use precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, tape measures).
Experience with forklifts and coil handling equipment preferred.
Solid understanding of warehouse and slitting operations.
Mathematical & Reasoning Abilities
Ability to perform basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide) using fractions and decimals.
Capable of identifying production issues and assisting with basic troubleshooting under supervision.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Physical Requirements
Standing and walking for extended periods.
Frequent use of hands and arms for handling materials.
Occasional stooping, kneeling, or climbing as required.
Ability to lift and maneuver materials in a physically active environment.
Vision Requirements
Close and distance vision, color recognition, peripheral vision, and depth perception required.
