Job Summary
The Coffee Roaster is responsible for roasting green coffee to established quality standards while supporting the daily production and packaging operations of the facility. This role requires attention to detail, consistency, equipment operation, and collaboration with the production team to ensure roasted coffee is delivered accurately and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Operate commercial coffee roasting equipment according to established roast profiles and production schedules
Monitor roast development, temperature curves, and batch timing to ensure consistency and quality
Measure, load, and track green coffee inventory for roasting batches
Record roast data, batch information, and production logs
Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and calibration of roasting and related equipment
Conduct visual and sensory checks (color, aroma, sample cupping when required) to maintain quality standards
Coordinate with packaging staff to ensure roasted coffee is transferred, degassed, and packaged efficiently
Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures
Assist with receiving and organizing green coffee shipments
Support general production tasks when roasting demand allows
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Previous coffee roasting, food production, or manufacturing experience preferred
Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to operate industrial equipment
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise processes
Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
Basic math and record-keeping skills
Passion for coffee and interest in roasting science is a plus
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and move bags up to 50–70 lbs
Standing for extended periods during production shifts
Working in warm environments near roasting equipment
Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive tasks
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with roast profile software or roasting control systems
Basic sensory evaluation or cupping knowledge
Experience in food manufacturing or packaging environments
