General Summary:
The Screw Machine Operator is responsible for operating one or more multiple spindle screw machines to machine metal workpieces according to specifications in a production environment. This role ensures consistent product quality, equipment functionality, and adherence to safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate one or more (typically two) pre-set multiple spindle screw machines with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to complete a series of machining operations on metal bar stock.
- Read and interpret dimensional guidelines, blueprints, and work orders to understand tolerances, quantities, and specifications.
- Inspect tooling setups and load raw material into feeding mechanisms.
- Start, observe, and monitor machine operation to ensure optimal performance.
- Verify conformance of sample workpieces using micrometers, dial indicators, sunnen hole gauges, and preset gauges.
- Replace or sharpen worn tools using a bench or surface grinder.
- Adjust machine controls and tool settings to maintain proper tolerances.
- Troubleshoot basic mechanical issues under the direction of a team leader or supervisor.
- Clean machines by removing chips, oil, and debris; transport shavings to reclaim system as required.
- Assist in training other team members if requested.
- Monitor and document production and quality data in accordance with company requirements.
- Exercise authority to stop production or shipment when quality concerns arise.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficient with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Demonstrates attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience operating multiple spindle screw machines strongly preferred.
- Prior knowledge of screw machine operations and tooling setups is a plus.
