Job Title: Welder/Fitter
Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Pay Rate: $18.00 - $20.00 (depending on experience)
Job Summary:
The Welder/Fitter is responsible for laying out, fitting, and welding fabricated, cast, forged, and steel components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, structural elements, and piping components. This role requires a high level of precision, reliability, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to welding using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
- Recognize, set up, and operate common hand and power tools in the welding trade, including shielded metal arc (SMAW), gas metal arc (GMAW), and flux-cored arc (FCAW) welding equipment.
- Use bolts, clamps, and tack welds to secure components in position for final welding.
- Set up welding equipment and weld parts using FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW processes.
- Examine workpieces for defects and measure dimensions using templates and straightedges to ensure conformance with specifications and industry standards.
- Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and modify or increase the size of metal components by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts.
- Position and clamp fabricated metal components in preparation for welding.
- Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area while following all company and OSHA safety regulations.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong math and measurement skills.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols.
- Experience in both structural and pipe fabrication.
