JOB OBJECTIVE:

Identifies, recruits & instructs students deemed to have a high degree of difficulty of being promoted into the next grade level, achieveing graduation and /or making a successful transition from school to a career with advancement opportunities.  The Specialist is responsiible for fully implementing the JAG model in an assigned school & achieving process standards & performance goals.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • provides appropriate curriculum & ensures students achieve specific JAG competencies through classroom instruction
  • Ensures an appropriate pool of students by directly recruiting students & obtaining referrrals from an in-school advisory committee consisting of school personnel
  • Administers testing program including JAG pre/post tests & career interest surveys
  • Ensure positive perceptions of the JAG program  within schools by developing & maintaining positive, effective working relationships with school personnel including teachers, administrators, students & members of the in-school advisory committee
  • Advocates for the program & develops a pool of effective community support resources by working with employers, parents, civic groups & legislators to build awareness of and support for the program
  • Provides students with guidance, counseling & support within appropriate limits; refers students to additional support services on an as needed basis; takes responsibility for learning &  complying with school policies such as mandated reporting, discipline, attendance, etc.
  • Complies with all documentation requirements in a timely fashion including contacts & activities involving students, employers & other groups
  • Assists students in finding and maintaining quality employment and/or post secondary educational programs upon graduation; works closely with students & employers for 12 months after the end of the school year to ensure a satisfactory employment outcome
  • Participates in staff, regional & national statewide meetings & staff development activities
  • Performs selected school related fuctions
  • Participates in field trips

EDUCATION:

Bachelors degree in social service, counseling, business, education or a related descipline is preferred.  Experience working with youth accompanied by knowledge of adolescent development issues a plus.
